Middle grade was so brutal for so many of us, and very few of us have the strength to revisit those pains. Definitely something to buy for young boys who feel different or older ones who are looking to feel connected to others like them and are trying to heal their inner child. After being bullied the previous year, the author transfers to a new school at the start of 7th grade and decides to quit speaking. If he doesn’t talk, he can’t be bullied. The author’s life is told in flashbacks where he lost his mother as a baby and his father isn’t involved in his life. He’s living with a grandmother and a brother.
